Scissor Skills ✂️

This morning Jasper asked if we could do some crafts. Once of our crafty activities was snipping playdough with scissors so that we could practice our scissor skills.

We practiced holding our scissors with 2 fingers and a thumb, we also made sure to check that our thumb was on top so we knew that our scissors were the right way up. It was really easy to cut through the playdough, we made lots of little snips and cut our playdough into tiny pieces.

We also used our hand and finger strength to roll the playdough into a ball or a sausage. We also squashed the playdough down and made lots of holes with our fingers. This was a great activity to strengthen our hands!

We sang as we squashed and squeezed our playdough - we are loving making up our own songs at the moment!

We decided to practice our scissor skills with paper as this is a little more tricky. We were all able to make snips in the paper and some of us have an excellent scissor hold with a little help. Next time, we will use tongs and tweezers in our activities to practice the ‘open and shut’ motion.
